Parks
The City of Kandiyohi Parks and Recreation Department's provide park facilities and programs to accommodate the needs and interests of local residents and visitors. Whether you are into sports, nature or just want to take your children to the playground, the City of Kandiyohi is the place for you.
The number and quality of a community’s parks, trails, open space, and recreational activities are constituents to the health and wellbeing of a community. The number and distribution of a community’s park system plays a large role in perception by the community itself. Accessibility, both in the sense of proximity to its users, as well as the ability of its users to engage with the site, is paramount to a cohesive park system.
While Kandiyohi has a relatively small footprint, it has a respectable number of parks which cover multiple uses, sizes, and roles within the broader park system. These parks include:
BELL PARK
This park is located on the corner of County Road 8/4th Street and Atlantic Avenue on the north side of Kandiyohi. This park has an open-air shelter. The Bell in Bell Park was placed there in 1974, this was the bell from the original schoolhouse in the Kandiyohi Settlement. This bell was brought here in the 1800’s and by all indications is the oldest thing in town.
CENTER PARK
Situated on the east side of County Road 8/4th Street on the north side of Kandiyohi. It has lots of open space, playground equipment, and an open-air shelter.
KIDDIE PARK
Located on the corner of 6th Street and McLaughlin Avenue on the north side of town. This is Kandiyohi’s second most popular park and is surrounded by a dense residential area. It holds the Jim Strouth and Sara Strouth-Fogg Memorial Park Benches and the Katelyn Deisting and Kelly VanEps Memorial "Children at Play" Sculpture
WHITTIER SCHOOL PARK
Sitting on the corner of Norwood St. and 1st Ave SW. Located on site are a baseball field, Tennis/Basketball Court, plenty of area to run around, and playground equipment for ages 5-12.
EAGLE PARK
Found on the south side of Kandiyohi on the corner of Olney Avenue and Candy Circle. This park is the only park on the south side of Kandiyohi and was created from an Eagle Scout Project in the 90’s. This park provides a small basketball court and playground equipment.
Come out and enjoy our beautiful parks!
