The City of Kandiyohi is dedicated to helping protect the health, safety and welfare of both people and animals in our community.

The City provides ordinance enforcement for the following. 

• Responding to stray animal complaints
• Investigating dangerous animals
• Barking dog complaints

To make a complaint please fill out the Ordinance Complaint form and email it to [email protected] or drop it off at the City Office.

PLEASE LEASH YOUR DOGS & CATS WHEN OUTSIDE

The City of Kandiyohi would like to remind all pet owners that dogs and cats are NOT allowed to run at large within the City.

A LEASH IS THE SAFEST CHOICE

When your dog or cat is outside your property, please keep them on a leash and accompanied by a responsible person.

City Ordinance § 91.02 requires dogs and cats to be effectively restrained and under the control of a responsible person.

Allowing your pet to roam freely — even if they are friendly — can create safety concerns for neighbors, children, other pets, motorists, and the animal itself.

⚠️ RUNNING AT LARGE IS A VIOLATION

A dog or cat found running at large may be subject to pickup and impoundment, and violation of the ordinance may result in penalties.

PET OWNER REMINDERS

• Keep dogs and cats restrained and under control.
• Dogs over 6 months old must be licensed with the City.
• Dogs and cats must have current rabies and distemper vaccinations.
• Dog license tags must be worn on the dog's collar.
